Major Arieh Shlomo Ziering
Officer and Fighter, Oketz Unit
Age 27 · Fell on October 7, 2023
His story
Arieh Ziering, the eldest son of Debbie and Mark, was born in Jerusalem in 1996 and grew up in Ra’anana. He was a joyful child, full of laughter, creativity, and a deep love for sports, especially basketball, where he excelled with humility.
From a young age, he showed natural leadership, guiding friends and siblings with kindness and care. He combined playfulness with thoughtfulness, reflecting often on faith, values, and responsibility.
Arieh studied at Yeshivat Ma’ale Gilboa and chose a path of both Torah and action. He enlisted in the IDF, first in Shayetet 13 and later in Unit Oketz, where he became a fighter, commander, and eventually an officer.
His leadership was quiet yet powerful, marked by modesty, dedication, and deep concern for every soldier. On October 7, 2023, Simchat Torah, he rushed south to defend Israel and fell bravely in battle near Kibbutz Zikim at the age of 27.
He was laid to rest in the Ra’anana military cemetery and posthumously promoted to Major. Arieh is remembered for his smile, humility, love of Israel, and the legacy of courage and compassion he left behind.
May the memory of Arieh and of all the other heroic fallen soldiers and sacred martyrs be blessed.
Amen
